Exam Regulations

Standard Examination Guidelines & Disciplinary Regulations

Academic integrity and fairness are core principles at Buon Ma Thuot Medical University (BMU). All international students taking examinations must strictly follow university exam regulations and guidelines.

1.1 Exam Formats of Attempts for Final Exams

The format of the final exam for a course unit may include written exams (multiple-choice or essay), oral exams, essays, major assignments, or a combination of these formats.

1.2 Responsibilities of Students Taking Exams

1. Conditions for Students to Take Exams

  • Mandatory Identification: Students must bring their student ID (mandatory).
  • Punctuality: Students must be present in the exam room at least 15 minutes before the start of the exam. Students arriving more than 15 minutes late after the exam has started will not be allowed to take the exam. Students arriving late within the allowed time must submit a request and complete the exam within the allocated exam duration.

2. Rules inside the Exam Room

In the exam room, students must strictly comply with the following regulations:

  • Permitted Items: Only bring into the exam room items such as pens, pencils, compasses, erasers, rulers, calculators (non-programmable and without storage or transmission functions), textbooks, and reference materials (if allowed and announced by the lecturer).
  • Prohibited Items: Do not bring into the exam room scrap paper, correction fluid, erasers, or materials (if not announced or approved), items with a calculation or storage function, technical devices, phones, recording devices, or other items that are not related to the exam and that may cause noise or disturbances.
  • Paper Verification: Before starting the exam, students must fully write their name, exam ID number on the exam paper, and ensure that two invigilators sign and write their names on the exam paper.
  • Exam Integrity: Exam answers must be written clearly, neatly, without crumpling or any personal marks/signs. It is prohibited to use two colors of ink or red ink pens. Students must protect their exam papers and are strictly prohibited from any cheating, viewing others’ answers, sharing opinions, or exchanging materials during the exam.
  • Submission Procedures: At the end of the exam time, students must immediately stop writing and submit their exam paper as instructed by the invigilators. Even if they cannot complete the exam, students must still submit their exam paper. When submitting, students must note the number of exam papers they used and sign the attendance list.
  • Leaving the Exam Room: For essay-based exams, students are only allowed to leave the exam room after 2/3 of the exam time and after submitting their exam papers and question sheets to the invigilators. For multiple-choice exams (paper or computer-based), students are not allowed to leave the exam room during the exam period and can only leave after the exam time ends.

1.3 Disciplinary Actions for Students Violating Exam Regulations

For students who violate the regulations, an official report will be recorded and disciplinary measures applied depending on the severity of the violation:

  1. Reprimand: Applied to students who commit a one-time minor offense, such as looking at another student’s paper, discussing with others, or forgetting their personal password during a multiple-choice exam in a computer-based testing room.
Penalty: Deducted 25% of their exam score for that course unit.
  2. Warning: Applied to students who:
    • Have already received a reprimand once but continue to violate during the same exam session.
    • Copy another student’s exam answers. If exam papers are concluded to be identical, both will be handled equally unless the victim provides clear proof.
Penalty: Deducted 50% of their exam score for that course.
  3. Exam Suspension: Applied to students who:
    • Have already received a warning during the exam session but continue to violate.
    • Bring unauthorized materials into the exam room (even if not used).
    • Bring electronic devices capable of storing data or transmitting signals (mobile phones, headphones, smartwatches, etc.).
    • Engage in quarrels or threaten exam personnel or other students.
    • Take exam questions out of the room or bring solved answers into the room.
    • Write unrelated content or mark the exam paper.
    • Sit for an exam on behalf of another student or have someone else take their exam.
Penalty: Received a score of 0 (zero) for that course, must submit exam papers immediately, and will not be allowed to participate in the second attempt of the final exam for that course.

Maintaining strict exam discipline ensures fairness, honesty, and professional integrity for all medical students at Buon Ma Thuot Medical University.
